In the Filipino culture, it is impolite to actually be on time to a party. If the party is supposed to start at 6 PM, and you show up at 6 PM, you will likely find yourself waiting for the host to finish preparing things for the party, and the rest of the guests not showing up until around 6:30 - 7 PM.
Showing up right on time also gives you the appearance of beeing greedy for the food that will be served at the party. This, of course, is a big social no-no.
It is proper to be on time for business events - so keep this rule in mind only for those social gatherings in which you have been invited.
