Here is the deal.
You are stopping by a friends/neighbors/associate’s house. They are in the middle of eating... could be dinner.. could be lunch - it doesn’t matter. Polite society requires that they invite you to eat with them. The proper response is “No thanks, I already ate.” You should say this, even if you haven’t eaten. If they continue to insist over and over that you have something, it is OK to have a bite at that point - but always refuse the first and second offer. Almost all of the time, they are inviting you out of politeness without you actually saying yes to the invitation. If you say yes on the first invite, there might not be enough food to go around and you will have one confused and embarrassed Filipino on your hands.
In the same respect - if an uninvited guest stops by your house, and you are eating - you are expected to make the token offer of them joining you.
